Dr. G. Blair Lamb is a physician who has spent more than three decades studying the neuromyofascial system, meaning the nervous system, muscles, and fascia, and its possible role in chronic pain. His work centres on an individualized, mechanism-informed way of assessing complex chronic pain, developed through clinical practice and his own study.

Background

Dr. Lamb’s interest in neuromyofascial science grew out of both clinical experience and his own history of spinal injury, following a diving accident in 1992. Over his career he developed a structured neuromyofascial audit of the spine and limb muscles: an examination-based assessment that considers the specific combination of a person’s spine, limbs, injury history, and other factors rather than looking at symptoms in isolation.

His thinking also draws on published research in this area, including magnetic resonance imaging studies measuring changes in deep spinal muscle after injury, and research on referred pain from the spine into the head, face, and limbs.

His clinical work began with focal conditions such as TMJ dysfunction, tinnitus, migraine, and carpal tunnel syndrome, and over time moved toward more complex presentations, including repetitive strain injury, complex migraine, and post-concussion syndrome. That work shaped his view that many chronic pain presentations may involve several contributing sites rather than a single cause. It is a clinical view, and one he believes should be tested through formal research.

Writing and education

Dr. Lamb is the author of Newton’s Laws Do Not Apply: Understanding Whiplash and Chronic Pain, available on Amazon and as an audiobook on Audible.

In recent years he has shifted his focus from full-time clinical practice toward education and writing. His aim is to document the neuromyofascial framework clearly enough that it can be studied, taught, and evaluated independently. His articles, with the published research behind them, are available through NMF Science.

Clinical practice

Dr. Lamb is a physician certified in family medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and his practice focuses on chronic pain and spine and limb rehabilitation. He practises at The Lamb Pain Clinic, Suite LL-104, 720 Guelph Line, Burlington, Ontario L7R 4E2. For appointment inquiries, contact the clinic at 905-331-7888.

Educational material about the neuromyofascial framework is published separately by NMF Science, an educational organization Dr. Lamb contributes to. It is general information and does not replace an individual assessment.
