Perhaps you may wonder why I became interested in chronic pain. Most doctors have little interest in chronic pain because it is not only a pain for the patient but a very difficult problem for the doctor to address effectively.
I became focused on the topic of pain by accident. In 1991, through a series of accidents and injuries, I was disabled, and suffered much chronic pain myself. I was diagnosed with many, many pain disorders including –
- carpal tunnel
- ulnar neuritis
- sciatica
- multiple disk injury
- RSI
- tennis elbow
- golfers elbow
- radiculopathies
- arthritis
- fibromyalgia
I had other pain problems too but fibromyalgia was a big blow to me. This was because, at the time, I and most of my profession, felt that fibromyalgia was primarily anxiety related.
So I delved into chronic pain with all my might. I had a couple of tough years but came back stronger than ever. I have treated thousands of patients and developed, with the help of other pain doctors, new therapies and principles of pain that I have called…
