Wellness Works Well at Work
The Principal Financial Well-Being Index is studying how the preventative
health industry is reducing health costs and improving sick time while improving
the bottom line.
Wellness programs have been around for a few decades, but many are modernizing
the services provided beyond cholesterol screening, routine serology and
physicals. In addition, the Well-Being Index has
demonstrated that 82% of employees offered education tools utilize them, and 68%
of employees offered health education seminars attend them.
Even more interesting, wellness programs have another benefit to employers; the
workers work harder, show more loyalty, and remain at their current job longer.
Overall, 47% of workers surveyed said wellness benefits encouraged them to work
harder.
Glatfelter Insurance Group believes a robust wellness program includes a
personal trainer, a fitness facility, health screenings, smoke cessation and
weight management classes is key to managing costs. The result is that the
annual health care costs are 14% below national average and work absents are 27%
below national average.

For the above reasons, I am a strong advocate for the implementation of
corporate stretching programs and RSI education, relaxation therapy training,
and appropriate supplement education. The empowerment of the individual by
medical education is a great way to add to any health care program and help to
manage health care and disability costs.
